Keeping YOUR Eyes Looking Young!

The eye area is extremely important, both functionally and cosmetically, and proper care of your eyes and the delicate skin around them is an essential part of your daily health and cleansing routine.

Beautiful, healthy eyes also need proper ophthalmic care, including regular testing to see if prescription eye wear is required, or your current prescription updated. Fair or not, right about the time we first notice lines around our eyes, we also notice that we have to hold the page farther away to see clearly! Squinting and straining to see doesn’t just cause eye strain…it causes WRINKLES! And proper sunglasses, especially for those of us fortunate enough to live within a few miles of the beach, are absolutely essential to protect our eyes themselves from UV damage. Large-lens sunglasses provide additional protection to the delicate skin around the eyes, helping to preventing wrinkles, spots and other photoaging.

Good skin care in the eye area can help slow down the aging process considerably in that region. A gentle cleanser, applied gently, without tugging or pulling the skin, is basic, and a gentle moisturizer will help keep the skin hydrated, and should also contain an SPF of at least 15.

For lines that have already formed, Botox injections are also an effective way to help relax the muscles that create those “crow’s feet,”  and it will interrupt that squinting habit, too. Laser or IPL can smooth away the wrinkles and minimize or even eliminate the wrinkles and spots from too much fun in the sun.

Dr. Martin has also developed a line of products that offer a simple, affordable routine to give the special care to your eyes that they deserve.

Lower Eyelid Cosmetic Surgery

As we age, many of us notice an increase in fat and skin in our lower lids. This puffy appearance can make us look tired, with dark circles under the eyes. Surgery to correct this condition, called a blepharoplasty, has undergone some significant changes over the last ten years. In the past, the fat pads and any excess skin were removed, resulting in a smoother look. However, this procedure frequently created hollowing of the lids later in life. This hollowing can accentuate dark circles, and often the person would appear even older due to the hollowing. Now we usually reposition the fat and move it down into the area of the dark circle. This is done with an invisible incision made on the inside of the lower lid. Excess skin is sometimes still excised, or tightened by resurfacing the skin with a laser. This results in a more rejuvenated look to the lid, with a smooth transition from the lid into the cheek, with no hollowing.

Dr. Martin is an expert in eye rejuvenation, being board-certified in facial plastic surgery, eye plastic surgery, and ophthalmic surgery. To see what this triple-boarded expert can do to make your eyes their youthful best, call us at 305.444.5950 to schedule YOUR complimentary consultation.

Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

One of the first areas on our face to show the signs of aging is in the skin around the eyes. This is the thinnest skin on the face, so it loses the elasticity at a younger age. This results in the development of crow’s feet and smile lines around the eyes. There is also fat behind the eyes which can begin to move forward (and down!) as we age, producing those “bags” or swollen looking lids. This can occur even at a young age in some families for genetic reasons. Cosmetic eyelid surgery, called a blepharoplasty, can be done to remove the bags and excess skin around the eyes, and is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries performed. The result is an immediate and long-lasting refreshing and rejuvenation effect, within about 7 days. Continue reading

Is Eyelift Surgery Right for You?

An eyelift wakes up the whole face!

Are you tired of looking tired? Of having puffy eyes, bags, or dark circles? And what about that extra skin? Maybe it’s time to see what an eyelift can do for YOU.

An eyelift (also called blepharoplasty) removes excess skin from the upper and/or lower eyelids, and can remove or reposition any excess or falling fat in the eye region. This procedure can give you a more youthful look and eliminate that “looking tired all the time” face that no one wants to see in the mirror.
